Southern California Fishermen Hook Giant Opah

By May 7, 2013All Post

CALIFORNIA, U.S.A. – A 125 pound saltwater fish better known for cruising the waters of Hawaii has been caught by a Southern California fishing crew. The fish, an opah, is rarely found so near the coast. This is a very healthy specimen with a gorgeous saddling of spots and bright red fins. Image Opah

Opah haven’t been extensively studied by scientists, so little is known of their biology, ecology, or life history. It is known that they eat squid and small fish, and are presumed to spend the majority of their life in open waters.
